From Santa Monica Studio and creative director, Cory Barlog comes a new beginning for one of gaming’s most recognizable icons. Living as a man outside the shadow of the gods, Kratos must adapt to unfamiliar lands, unexpected threats, and a second chance at being a father. Together with his son Atreus, the pair will venture into the brutal Norse wilds and fight to fulfil a deeply personal quest. • Bold New Beginning — His vengeance against the Gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse Gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive…And teach his son to do the same. This startling reimagining of God of War deconstructs the core elements that defined the series—satisfying combat; breathtaking scale; and a powerful narrative—and fuses them anew.• A Second Chance — Kratos is a father again. As mentor and protector to Atreus, a son determined to earn his respect, he is forced to deal with and control the rage that has long defined him while out in a very dangerous world with his son.• A Darker, More Elemental World — From the marble and columns of ornate Olympus to the gritty forests, mountains, and caves of Pre-Viking Norse lore, this is a distinctly new realm with its own pantheon of creatures, monsters, and gods. With an added emphasis on discovery and exploration, the world will draw players in to explore every inch of God of War’s breathtakingly threatening landscape—by far the largest in the franchise.• Vicious, Physical Combat — With an over the shoulder free camera that brings the player closer to the action than ever before, fights in God of War mirror the pantheon of Norse creatures Kratos will face: grand, gritty, and grueling. A new main weapon and new abilities retain the defining spirit of God of War while presenting a vision of violent conflict that forges new ground in the genre.

Miyamoto Musashi's Go Rin no Sho or the book of five rings, is considered a classic treatise on military strategy, much like Sun Tzu's The Art of War and Chanakya's Arthashastra. The five "books" refer to the idea that there are different elements of battle, just as there are different physical elements in life, as described by Buddhism, Shinto, and other Eastern religions. Through the book Musashi defends his thesis: a man who conquers himself is ready to take it on on the world, should need arise.

The Art of War, The Prince, and The Book of Five Rings are three historical pieces that deal with strategy.  The Art of War is an ancient Chinese military treatise, and each chapter within the treatise is devoted to a distinct aspect of warfare and how that applies to military strategy and tactics. The Art of War remains the most influential strategy text in East Asian warfare and has had a profound influence on East Asian and Western military thinking, business tactics, legal strategy, and beyond.  Machiavelli composed The Prince as a practical guide for ruling an empire. Within his treatise, Machiavelli aims to provide strategies on how to govern a nation, conquest of new territories, and dealing with integration of the peoples of new territories. Machiavelli also lays out his strategy for defense, military, and the qualities a prince should have to govern properly.  The Book of Five Rings is a Japanese text that has been regarded as a treatise on the strategy for winning. The five chapters, "rings", refer to the idea that there are different elements of battle, just as there are different physical elements in life. The Book of Five Rings was known as the holy grail for samurai; it lays out strategy on how to defeat an enemy by using tactics such as throwing them off guard and creating confusion, among other techniques. 1. Waking Up from War: A Better Way Home for Veter...

Voices and stories of veterans and their families and care providers reveal what is necessary for post-war healing. This book argues that the elements that contribute to healing war trauma - including safety, connection, community, dialogue, mutual respect, diversity, and compassion - can help build a stronger nation. But this message comes with a warning and a challenge not just for caregivers, veterans service organizations, governmental departments, Congress, and the White House, but for all Americans. War creates incalculable suffering - not only among those on the front lines, but also among those left behind. For every soldier killed or injured on the battlefield, countless others are affected - particularly relatives and friends - often in isolation and silence. As a nation, the US must do everything it can to repair the injuries caused by war, whether physical, emotional, or moral, both for those who served in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere, and for the country itself. Only after the nation provides the top-quality care our veterans have earned will we be able to begin to end our reliance on war and truly build a durable peace. 1. Language: English. Tolstoy was born in 1828 and he was in his 20s when he wrote this early work. He his famous for detailed physical descriptions combined with emotional drama. For example, try that wonderful short story "Master and Man" that combines those two elements. The present work has the detailed descriptions but lacks the emotional appeal and lacks the great characters that we see in other works, i.e.: a crying youth because he is humiliated is hardly a great emotional experience. Tolstoy remains as one of the leading writers of novels. His impressive legacy includes three of four monumental works including War and Peace, Anna Karenina, and the novella The Death of Ivan Ilych. According to his own estimate, he has over 400 works - as he describes in one of his non-fiction works. Tolstoy's writing can be divided into three phases: the early years up to 1860 to 1861, the mid-career years from approximately 1861 to 1890, and his final years when he turned to non-fiction polemics. His most important fiction was written in the middle period, and it started with the release of The Cossacks in 1863. That story contains emotional elements and descriptions similar to what we read in Anna Karenina. His writings before The Cossacks contains his famous detail but lacks the same level of drama and emotion. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Chris Harvey. Johann Adler is at a crossroads in his life. He is living a simple life in northern Minnesota, teaching disinterested students high school English, and contemplating retirement. But Johann carries with him dark secrets from his past as a sailor during the Vietnam War. His scars, both physical and psychological, have been suppressed for decades. Now, when he feels that the final chapter of his life might be over, he embarks on a journey across the country to visit the remaining men from his navy squadron. What he discovers could propel him into his golden years, or send him to an early grave. Although a departure from his espionage and thriller novels, Trevor Scott takes us on a trip into the universal human condition of the baby boom generation. An evocative tale of American literature, Embrace the Great Nothing leads the listener to a meaningful understanding of the contemplation of life, while giving the listener Scott’s trademark elements of mystery and suspense. 1. The USS Flier: Death and Survival on a World Wa...

The fate of the USS Flier is one of the most astonishing stories of the Second World War. On August 13, 1944, the submarine struck a mine and sank to the bottom of the Sulu Sea in less than one minute, leaving only 14 of its crew of 86 hands alive. After enduring 18 hours in the water, eight remaining survivors swam to a remote island controlled by the Japanese. Deep behind enemy lines and without food or drinking water, the crewmen realized that their struggle for survival had just begun. On its first war patrol, the unlucky Flier made it from Pearl Harbor to Midway where it ran aground on a reef. After extensive repairs and a formal military inquiry, the Flier set out once again, this time completing a distinguished patrol from Pearl Harbor to Fremantle, Western Australia. Though the Flier's next mission would be its final one, that mission is important for several reasons: the story of the Flier's sinking illuminates the nature of World War II underwater warfare and naval protocol and demonstrates the high degree of cooperation that existed among submariners, coast watchers, and guerrillas in the Philippines. The eight sailors who survived the disaster became the first Americans of the Pacific war to escape from a sunken submarine and return safely to the United States. Their story of persistence and survival has all the elements of a classic World War II tale: sudden disaster, physical deprivation, a ruthless enemy, and a dramatic escape from behind enemy lines. In The USS Flier: Death and Survival on a World War II Submarine, noted historian Michael Sturma vividly recounts a harrowing story of brave men who lived to return to the service of their country. 1.
